Alex Grant, a long-time Kaenon Polarized team rider, won the Park City Point 2 Point endurance mountain bike race on September 3. Grant completed the 78-mile course with a time of 6:48:58, approximately twelve minutes ahead of second place finisher and mountain bike legend, Tinker Juarez. This marks the third consecutive year that Grant has won the grueling event, wearing Kaenon Polarized Kore C28 as his eyewear of choice.
Through the first four hours of the race Alex Grant rode in close proximity to other race front-runners, at the head of the pack. It was at the Spiro Climb, however, where he found his opportunity to break away during a brutal 2,500-foot ascent (total course incline of 14,000 ft.) leading to the Mid-Mountain Trail, one of the course’s final sections.
“That’s the breaking point of the race, if you’re not feeling good you will lose a lot of time going up that [climb],” said Grant. “I managed to motor up that pretty good and that was the turning point of the race for me.”
Grant’s previous experience at the race, combined with his unmatched physical conditioning, aided in part by his recent third-place finish at the Leadville 100 race in the Colorado Rockies, gave him enough strength to build a comfortable lead that he would maintain to the finish. Riding for nearly seven hours requires riders to perform at their peak physically, including maintaining focused vision.
“You need your eyes to be protected and relaxed rather than strained,” said Grant. “Kaenon’s ultra-efficient polarized lens does that better than any other lens out there.”
As a sponsor of the event, Kaenon Polarized provided second place finishers in all divisions with a pair of polarized sunglasses. Proper eyewear is a necessity as mountain bikers traverse rough terrain. Riders like Alex Grant and Marshall Eames, who also competed in the event in Hard Kore White C28, wear Kaenon Polarized sunglasses due to the superior optical clarity and protection offered by the patented SR-91 polarized lenses. Preferred by most mountain bikers, the Copper 28 and 50 lens tints (allowing 28% and 50% of essential light to the eye) let riders tune their vision depending on light conditions. Kaenon Polarized’s SR-91 polarized lens the perfect choice for biking in any condition, reducing eye fatigue when riding in and out of shadows, protecting against plants and debris, enhancing contrast when riding on trails and allowing for increased visual awareness at high speeds.
